Release Athens<\/strong> is very happy to welcome two truly great bands, The Jesus and Mary Chain<\/strong> and dEUS on Wednesday, June 8th<\/sup> at Plateia Nerou<\/strong>. They will join the legendary Bauhaus<\/strong> for an emphatic start to this years\u2019 edition of the festival.<\/p>\n

The Jesus and Mary Chain<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\u03a6\u03c9\u03c4\u03bf\u03b3\u03c1\u03b1\u03c6\u03af\u03b1<\/p>\n

Brothers William and Jim Reid, the heart of the band, begin recording their music in the bedroom of their East Kilbride (10 km off Glasgow) home. Heavily influenced not only by underground legends like The Ramones, Velvet Underground (and punk music in general) but also by The Shangri-Las, Brian Wilson\u2019s Beach Boys and Phil Spector-produced 1960s pop, The Jesus & Mary Chaincreated an innovative fusion of noisey pop, a personal style that defined a whole era of rock music.<\/p>\n

Their landmark debut album, \u201cPsychocandy<\/em>\u201d (1984), one of the best releases of the 80s, together with their follow-up record \u201cDark lands<\/em>\u201d (1987), were celebrated by critics and paved the way for the genre we would identify, few years later, as shoegaze. The band went on to release four more studio albums, \u201cAutomatic<\/em>\u201d (1989), \u201cHoney\u2019s Dead<\/em>\u201d (1992), \u201cStoned & Dethroned<\/em>\u201d (1994) and \u201cMunki<\/em>\u201d (1998), before disbanding in 1999 and released one more record in 2017, \u201cDamage and Joy<\/em>\u201d, a mesmerizing evolution of their sound, that solidified their place as one of the most influential bands of the last 40 years.<\/p>\n

Their endless list of seminal songs (\u201cApril Skies\u201d, \u201cJust Like Honey\u201d, \u201cSome Candy Talking\u201d, \u201cBlues From A Gun\u201d, \u201cReverence\u201d, \u201cUpside Down\u201d etc.) from these two truly greats artists, make this a can\u2019t-miss concert for every indie pop fan.<\/p>\n

They formed in 1991 at Antwerp and although they started out as a cover band, soon began to write their own material. With influences ranging from Frank Zappa to Charles Mingus, dEUS made a splash with the release of their debut, \u201cWorst Case Scenario<\/em>\u201d, getting rave reviews from critics and earning them a cult following.<\/p>\n

With Tom Barman (guitar, vocals) and Klaas Janzoons (keyboards, violin) as regular members, dEUS released two of the best records of the 90s (\u201cIn A Bar Under The Sea<\/em>\u201d, \u201cThe Ideal Crash<\/em>\u201d) and an endless list of unforgettable songs like: \u201cSuds & Soda\u201d, \u201cHotel lounge\u201d, \u201cLittle Arithmetics\u201d, \u201cSerpentine\u201d, \u201cSister Dew\u201d, \u201cInstant Street\u201d, \u201cSirens\u201d, \u201cThe End of Romance\u201d etc.<\/p>\n

Their past performances in Athens are now legendary and we truly can\u2019t wait to see them again on the stage of Release Athens 2022.<\/p>\n
